  1. I'm one of those people that researches big purchases. When I decided to buy a scooter, I spent a lot of time looking. I ended up with a Q-Link Pegasus. It's 150 cc, water-cooled, has larger tires and sells new for about $2600. I lucked out and bought a used one (130 miles old) for $1600.

There are a lot of nice 150 cc scooters out there but for the price and for what you get, I think the Pegasus is a great deal.

  2. Genuine (Stella, Buddy) has poor warranty support and parts availability. I worked at a dealership that sold Genuine (among 15 other brands) and they were some of the hardest to get parts for, and warranty support was terrible.

No matter what, you're best off sticking to the well known japanese brands, Yamaha, Honda, etc.

  3. Your wants and needs are mutually exclusive.

The best is the Vespa, and they are not conservatively priced.

Now some Hondas and Yamahas are pretty nice, but in any case they are a case of sticker shock waiting to happen.

Oh and some of the older models out there are equipped with old school brakes, Drum brakes lasted on these things until long after those in cars were gone.

I once had a 1986 Yamaha Riva 200Z, with drum brakes, and I could not stop faster than a huge loaded suburban.  So when he braked, I shot around him to the ride side of the lane, luckily enough.  On the left was some fool that tried to pull out, and stopped in a panic.

After that I used it only to run up to the mailbox, or at city speeds to the local stop and rob. I sold it to a granola eater that wanted to take it to a commune in south america.

I watch my local craigslist pretty carefully, and these thing are out of sight, especially lately.  Everbody wants to get rid of their gas sucking american iron, and drive a vespa, with all the cool stuff.

Too late by a year anyway.  When gas hit $3/gallon they were all gone. Even the small motorcycles are increasingly valuable as gas climbs.

There never were all that many full time  scooterists/afficianados in any case. (Only 100,000 scooterists and 100 million cars, you do the math.)

  4. Kymco and Hyosung, Genuine, Buddy, STella, Derbi are all good scooters with out paying for the name as you have to do with j*p scooters. I did not put on Vespa and Piaggo as they are expensive. All the ones I mentioned are quality rides with a  guarantee
