  1. If you're looking for the best martial art, by far the greatest number of open tournaments have been won by Muay Thai practitioners (also known as Thai Boxers). If its specifically Kung Fu then Bruce Lees jeet kune do is based on the individuals own capabilities, strengths and weaknesses, thus maximising your technique and power etc.

If its specifically Kung Fu styes you're interested in, I don't know what is the best, each has its proponents and each has its own unique advantages. To fight against weapons the best style is that used by the Shaolin monks. To fight against animals (like big mussels) I'm not sure but some Kung Fu type people have been known to kill tigers!

  2. Here's the answer the great Bruce Lee would have given:

"Choi Lei Fut is the most effective system that I've seen for fighting more than one person and is one of the most difficult styles to attack and defend against. It is the only style (kung fu) that went to Thailand to fight the Thai boxers and hadn't lost".

You can read more about this Kung Fu style here: http://choileifut.com

  3. ju jitsu is a good one id suggest that o and also

EVERYBODY WAS KONG FU FIGHTING THOSE CATS WERE FAST AS LIGHTING badada bada da badadada

  4. krav maga......its a self defense used by the isreali special forces and military.....its pretty much pure self defense with alot of groin attacks and stuff.....its all about trying to keep you safe

  5. American Kenpo Karate is by far the best STREET self defense in the US today. It incorporates Judo, Jiu Jitsu, Boxing, Kickboxing, wrestling and Chinese Kenpo. Ed Parker found that traditional training was unrealistic in it's defense aspects. It covers disarms and weapons defense as well as multiple attackers. While everyone else is talking about cross training, they are still 50 years behind Kenpo.

If you can find a school that has Frank Trejo in from time to time that's even better. He does something they are calling Kenpo Fusion, taking Kenpo leaps and bounds again over other arts. It also is the best in it's mutiple attacker training. I know from experience. 18 years worth.

Kenpo  is not a style of Kung Fu but it is an American Hybrid art and just plain the best all around art.

  6. I dont know the best style in Kung fu as it depends on what you feel comfortable with and can adapt to but for me it would be Wing chun :)***

  7. It really is not about finding the "best style" like some people have already said its about the guy using the style.  You could also work on your awareness and avoidance to stop yourself getting into trouble before it kicks off because no matter how good you are your opponant can always get lucky, and if its a group of them they won't even need luck - its really not worth fighting unless you really have to.  If you do want to learn find a teacher near you who is really good, dosent matter what art and discuss your training needs with them.

And stay away from anyone who claims self defence is easy, real fights are not easy or fun.

  8. well, you choose someting korean, like taekwondo. that'll give yer strengh, speed and the ability to kill your opponent with one kick. Combine it with Hapkido (similar to j*p. aikido) and you'll learn some very good techniques.

How to adjust this knowledge to street fighting, that you gotta find out yourself. Not that difficult, but not easy either. took me some time to find the right moves appropriate for situations that may occur in street fighting....

If you want however to learn to defend your life, like to fight to death, like you against 4-5 guys you gotta learn Muay Thai. thats very dangerous, takes a lot of brawls, you get severly bruised very often, may have to go see the doctor once or twice, BUT: you will really learn HOW to fight, and to fight DANGEROUSLY... Think bout it and choose the right thing for yourself...

  9. Firstly you must understand that there is no BEST style. Find an art that works for you, that you are happy and feel comfortable with.

A martial art is a journey that only you can travel, people will give you opinions that this style is better that that style, but they usually have missed the concepts and understanding. Style vs style is still only one person against another person. To get a good understanding on how to compare styles compare you should study the styles.

That doesn't mean that you can still say that this style is better, just that is suits you more and so you are better/more comfortable with it.

Generally as a basis though, I would go along the lines of Wing Chun/JKD as soft forms or try Aikido/ Ju jitsu as defensive forms. I f however you want the "Cinematic look" tae kwon do and Thai.

Just find your style and then find yourself, think not what others think of you, but what you think of yourself.

  10. Be concerned less with the style of Kung Fu, and more with finding a GOOD teacher and learning how to use what you learn. The style itself isn't what makes a martial art effective in any situation, but rather it's how the practicioner uses the art that determines its effectiveness.

  11. Try Ju jitsu. My grandad was a black belt

  12. go for krav maga its pretty much designed for self defence aganinst weapions and the bigger male and gangs

  13. I'M GOING TO BE HONEST, None Of These "People" Have The Right Answer, "Most People": Who Are Looking For The "Best Fighting Style" Are Usually The Ones That Are Trying To Be The Badest And The Best, And Probably Trying To Start Fights.

  14. there isnt any best style only extraordinary people. they are the ones who can make any style /system work. i personally train and teach in an eclectic style based on Wing-Chun. good luck

  15. try not being around the trouble makers with big muscles then you wont need to defend your self from them why put yuor self in that situation

  16. Well if you want Gong-Fu then in my opinion Wing Chun, Hung Gar or Choy Li Fut are good but I do Jeet Kune Do that has a Gong Fu base with all these in them as well.

Combat Hapkido also has some Gong-Fu in its trapping range http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Combat_Hapk...
