I am currently planning on moving to Melbourne later this year, around October. I will be moving to Melbourne with 2 other friends and we are all in are early 20's ( Im 20, one is 21 and the other 22). We are looking into the best place to live. We would like to be close to the CBD and the tram system. Also will want to be in an area with other young people ,a good night life and good rate of rent.

  1. Fitzroy.= Brunswick Street . Collingwood.= Smith Street. Carlton ( for good food ) = Lygon Street. St.Kilda.  = Try the Vineyard. Cool bar  & late opening. CBD = Manchester Lane Jazz Club. North Melbourne = Errol Street and Queen Vic Markets. South Melbourne = Clarendon Street. (bars /clubs/ good food.) South Yarra = Chapel Street. Prahran = Commercial Road and Greville Street ( good lively bars ) CBD = Flinders Lane cafes. Southbank = Casino and endless eateries / bars . Richmond = Swan Street and Bridge Road. 2. St Kilda, or an inner northern suburb such as Fitzroy

  3. St.Kilda has a good pub, the Espy so I am told and trams

  4. St Kilda ia pretty up there tons of young people

i like night life in city though  to but St Kilda is where most young people live

  5. St Kilda and Docklands though they are innercity suburbs so rent may be a little pricey.

  6. north fitzroy or st kilda or prahran

north fitzroy - has great cafes and night life.

    st kilda - the beach

prahran - chapel street shopping and cafes more upmarket clubs

all have trams and less then 20 mins into the city!

you'll love melbourne!! it's awesome here!

  7. Fitzroy, around smith st, brunswick street

it's kinda hippie, great culture and really convienient

richmond by teacher who wont stop going on about how good richmond was to live in

he says there's just always sooo much happening

both these places are inner suburbs so decent rent prices

  8. Fitzroy - or Fitzroy North for a slightly quieter location but still very close to the action.

I reckon Richmond would be pretty good too.

It's been a while since I was in Melbourne, but I wonder if St Kilda itself is perhaps a bit expensive. And if you get too far from there it's pretty residential.

Great place though! You'll love it.

  9. Docklands as it is close to the city (actually it is a part of the city)
