  1. all geese are NOT the same there are around 50 breeds and variations  of geese. . .

For a beginner i would suggest get a trio of Embden goslings . .  that way they will get used to you while they are young . .  and only be defensive against strangers

(when adults geese make brilliant guard dogs)

Here is a bit of info on embden geese on the first link http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Embden_Gees...

and are lots of photos on the second link =)http://www.feathersite.com/Poultry/Gee...

But if you want something a bit more exotic you could get a trio of chinese (again when goslings) these are lovely geese and look more like swans and aren't' that hard to get and are certainly not rare they come in tow colours white or brown

here are two  links with some information on the firsthttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chinese_Goo...

and the second lots of photos =) http://www.feathersite.com/Poultry/Geese...

Over all geese I think are LOVELY animals i myself;f have had them for over 7 years and have had the same 3 geese for 7 years .. tehy have grown upo ince little gosling into lovley and TAME geese The first goose i ever got was a lil gosling called freddie and is now fully grown (7 years) and even sits in my lap and loves attention and her 6 other friends  =)
