What is the best thing I can do to control fleas on my dog and in my home?

I am having a big problem with fleas in my house. But I try so hard to keep them at bay. I give my dog a flea bath every week, I wash his bedding in HOT water with Pine Sol once a week, I bleach the bottom of his crate everyday, and I mop the house with bleach every 2 days. I also have taken to vacuuming the carpets twice a day, but for some reason I cannot seem to get rid of these pests. Please help. What am I doing wrong?

I have a baby on the way, due in less than a week, and I don't want him to have to be brought into a flea infested home. I am desperate.

  1. Well, I would do a couple things- this is what I did to get them under control in my house.  First go buy Frontline or Advantage from your vet.  It's kinda expensive, but it's the best stuff out there.  Then go buy a flea bomb for your house.  Follow directions for the flea bomb, leave the house for however long it says to, then be prepared to air the place out for a few hours.  Before re-entering the house put the Frontline or Advantage on your pet(s), don't do it with in 3-4 days of a bath, and set a monthly alarm to go off every 30 days to remind you to put it on your pet(s) again.  That's how we got rid of them. Permanently.  Good luck!

  2. Frontline monthly treatment works great! I have 2 dogs and 2 cats and NO fleas because I use this product

  3. I have had this problem and I can tell you how to get rid of them. first, you need to give your dog a good flea bath. Read the instructions and keep the shampoo on him for the recommended length of time. Treat him with Frontline. Go to Home Depot, or Lowes and get the flea bombs and some insecticide for your yard. Make sure you have a flea bomb in every room, two if the room is large. Make sure all family members, including the dog are out of the house when you set off the bombs. Spray your yard with the insect spray. If you don't, your dog will continue to contract the fleas. If you take these steps, you should get rid of them. BTW, congrats on your new Baby.

  4. Well I want to share this with you.  I have had dogs all my life, and fleas and ticks are one of those things that no matter how clean you are you can't stop them.

I read an article that if you feed your dogs BREWERS YEAST TABLETS---It gets into the dogs system and the fleas can't stand it...they will not attach to the dog.

So, for the last few years, when tick season comes around, I start giving the brewers yeast tablets and we haven't had one flea in the house.    You can find them at any pet store in the vitamin section.  Plus they are actually good for the dog and provide vitamins.

  5. buy a flea collar or you can also crush garlic up into his food. no pest want to lay on his coat or much less bite him!! hope this works and if not you should google remedies for dogs with fleas, good luck and congrats on your baby!! hope all goes wellxxxx

  6. you might want to give you dog flea and tick medicine if hes near wood get the most expensive i know it sounds bad but it works and keeps things like that away

  7. I strongly urge you to have a professional come and spray the yard and your house to get started. During this, make sure all inside and outside pets are on a flea prevention like Frontline, Advantage and so on.

Vacume your house daily if possible and clean any curtains or beding.

The idea is to break the flea cycle. Even with your pets on the flea prevention you can use Adams flea shampoo once every 2 weeks. It contains pesticide not just a one time killing.

    Congrats on your new arrival!

  8. Frontline works wonderfully for fleas and ticks!  You can get it from your vet, just make sure that you use it properly (right amount for your dogs size).

However if your home is infested, and you've seemed to have tried a ton of stuff sounds like the best thing to do would get a proffesional to take care of it (and use frontline on your dog at the same time)

If you only take care of your home, or only of the dog it won't fix the overall problem and they will return.  You need to fix both simultaneously...  Good luck!!!
