Get him a Box for starters.  Protect the family jewels.  I dont know how old this kid is but depending on age and/or skill level.  Try these:

If you have that covered then get all this in one package.  Tickets to a Cricket match and a Autograph bat and marker pen.  Kids love trying to get players to sign their bats.

A net session with a bowling machine and coach.

I dont recommend buying a real cricket bat, because kids have their own favourite brands.

Also like most other ppl here i agree the team shirt thing is always a great idea.
