  1. I just returned from a cruise where we had a stopover in Barcelona.  We took a bus tour which enabled us to see the sights of the city.  I want to warn you that one lady from the cruise got her purse stolen, and one crew member was sighted taking money from an ATM, followed and robbed.  Also, a Delta Air Lines Pilot recently was there on a layover, took a walk alone at night to walk off a late dinner, when he was accosted by two men.  He ended up being robbed of $150.  His jaw was broken, and he was beaten up.  You can have a very good time there, but just be cautious of your surroundings.  We were cautious and enjoyed just looking at the buildings and learning some of the history.

  2. Well, I think Rick has some good suggestions but you MAY have already read his book! http://www.ricksteves.com/plan/destinati...

In Barcelona you can just hang out on Las Ramblas or in the Gothic Quarter. Drink some Sangria and see a Flamenco show! Shop and eat and just people watch.

Here is an itinerary for a 4 day tour. Take what you want from it: http://www.frommers.com/destinations/bar...

  3. Las Ramblas and the cathedral are great. YOu can get horse ride round city to see bits you miss which is also great. Nou Camp is spectacular if you like footy.

However though it is a little away from Barca in Figueras the Salvador Dali museum is awesome and should not be missed.

    Have a great time.

  4. Well obviously "las ramblas" it does appear in all the travel guides, but it's becasue of a good reason. Also, although you might not like the name, (as you said you didn't like much art) you could go to "el cafe de las artes" i know the name is againt your will, but, what they do there is music and theatre and poetry just by your table, and the desserts are great.

Unless you want to specifically stay in Barcelona you should go to Sitges, it's 20 min by train and the beaches and the viewes are beatiful.

Also in the city center you will find the best shops with some very interesting views.

The good thing of barcelona is thet it is by the beach and by the mountains.Tthey have a beatiful forest there it's worth a visit if you have time.

And of course "parque Güel" art in it, I know but also it's a marvelous place to visit  with a  book if you find a fresh spot.

  5. I always look here first for Ideas when I travel.

Then I book my tickets, because I've seen people show up at Disney World and get turned away because they were full!

  6. Lots do to, here is some advice on what not to do! Avoid the Picasso museum, it is full of stuff he made when he was at school and it is rubbish. There are rooms full of prep stuff for one painting. I think most of the items displayed in this museum should have been thrown out but because he became famous it is being displayed. Having said that, the buildings it is are beautiful. If you can try to go to Figueras to the Dali museum (easy by train) and make time to see the separate display of jewelry he made - it took my breath away.

  7. There are places you can't miss : Las Ramblas, of course.. But try all the new open air facilities near the Marina, the beaches and Port Vell is a "must go". Of course Barrio Gótico is also very interesting - there are lots of artisan shops and all the surroundings of the Cathedral are spectacular. If art isn't your thing enjoy just walking at random - there's always a surprise... I should know , I spent 4 days there last April - celebrating my wedding anniversary. I started dating my husband in Barcelona - after a good movida night. Have fun!!
