  1. Bloating is normally caused by overgrowth of "unfriendly" bacteria and can be countered by taking a course of pro-biotics (acidophilus & biffidus).

Another common reason is due to eating fruit after a meal - fruit neads to travel faster through your system because it degrades more quickly than other foods, so if it's held up it causes bloating.

One of the best things for IBS is Psyllium husks taken in a glass of water. This is soluble fibre that helps stop both diarrhoea AND constipation and, because it's soft and bulky, gives your colon something to grip to aid peristaltic action. This helps relieve cramps and pain in the lower abdomen.

  2. Eliminate dairy, citrus, soy, corn, gluten, caffeine, alcohol and smoking.  Avoid for a period of time of about two to three weeks. Then re-introduce one new food every couple of days. See if symptoms return or there is a negative reaction when re-introducing a food.

Peppermint tea offers some relief of symptoms like abdominal pain, bloating, gas, diarrhea, and spasms.

A diet of at least 75% raw foods (fruit, vegetables, nuts, seeds. juices) can be invaluable for long term management.

    Best of luck.

  3. I cannot help with the wheat allergy, however I get great relief from having two Activia yogurts a day

  4. These are all good advise, but I would also throw in there to get a abdominal massage.  In most Swedish certifications most MT's are trained in this.  However, ask around to see if one does it, sadly most do not.  This helps to releave, clear blockages and helps with the lower back.  Keep in mind that the thought is that we carry our personal issues in our ab area, and the issues from those around us in our head, neck and shoulders.

When I started to receive this type of session, I no longer had IBS and I now do it in my private practice.  But, also check with a Nutritionist to see what he/she is digesting that might be agitating this.  Or if something new to the diet or sudden change is happening.  Sometimes when your going from a, "fast food," diet to a healthy diet, you will have some stomach issues as well as your body adjusts. ;)  Also, look at medications (check with your doctor).  It's shocking what the side effects are with medications today and when you are taking more than one in a day.

    Cheers.

  5. My husband has Celiac Disease or Wheat & Gluten allergy.  You must stay away from  wheat. rye, malt & barley.  You will be surprised what products & foods contain these ingredients.  Have you tried Camomille Tea or Fennel Tea?  My german grandmother gave me that as a child and it helps my husband alot.  Stay away from spicy foods, raw vegetables, and alcohol, as they will tend to irritate your stomach & intestines.  Do not cheat on your gluten free diet, it is not like Diabetes where you can regulate the sugar with meds.  With Celiac the gluten causes bacteria to from in the small intestine and does damage to the cells.  This bacteria can stay in your system for a very long time and cause problems long after you have eaten the wrong foods.  It took my husband a while to figure that out. You can also try milk or Soy milk, it tend to coat the stomach and soothe very quickly.  You can go to the website Celiac.com and get more info.  Good luck

  6. IBS is not actually a thing, kind of like indigestion. It is an indicator that something is going wrong somewhere in your body (obviously something the doctors can't figure out, as they give it an ambiguous name like IBS). By this I mean it's simply a problem with either the whole of your digestive system not working properly or merely parts of it being compromised (stomach, liver, pancreas, gall bladder). If not taken care of, it can cause serious problems, I speak from experience.

I would suggest by cleaning up your diet first. If you have a wheat allergy or are celiac, begin by strictly removing any gluten containing food from your diet. If your system is upset, lay off the grains as well, as they can be tough to digest and aggravate the condition at this time. Keep your diet simple and free of refined foods. Drink lots of water with a slice of lemon in it. This helps to regulate the ph levels of your tummy.

Some herbs are very helpful and soothing, not to mention full of nutrition. Slippery elm would be a wonderful one to incorporate. It's very soothing and nutritious, you could almost live off of it alone.

Please speak to someone with some kind of credentials (naturopath, homeopath, herbalist) to determine what the problem really is, what is the root of your IBS. You'll be happy you did and you'll actually feel better and be more able to fix the problem, not band-aid it. :)

  7. Well, if you have wheat intolerance or even celiac disease, then you need to be staying away from all forms of wheat (and gluten if you have celiac.)  That is the only thing that will help you IBS as it is probably caused by the wheat!

  8. Avoid sugar and even fresh fruit for awhile.

  9. peppermint tea is good for stomach problems, also I find yakult is brilliant for helping my digestion, good luck

  10. Wheatgerm- sprinkle it on your cereal. it loosens your bowls.

  11. u should take colpermin these are peppermint oil capsules they helped my daughter, u can get them on prescription or buy them for about 5 pounds. if u have wheat allergy use gluten free products like sainburys "free from" and if u have not already u should get tested for coeliac disease if u have this u can get gluten free food s on prescripton. hope this helps a bit.
