I often hear 1-2 hours before sunrise or after sunset, but alternatively I see many photos where the sky is very bright blue and not anytime near sunrise or sunset. Any suggestions?

  1. Usually 1-2 hours after your husband gets back from his mistress. He'll have a nice glow about him.

  2. if you use flash and lighting - to fill shadows et cetera then anytime is good

  3. Early morning and just before sunset is when the light is soft. At 3 pm it is harsh lighting, but you can go to open shade and use fill flash and get that soft light look. Overcast days are best for outdoor portraits.  When the sun is bright you have may to use neutral density filters to get the background to blur though.  And to make the sky look even bluer use a polarizing filter.

  4. Talk to your photographer.  If they have experience taking outdoor pictures they know what time of day works best.  Those other details you are talking about is known as "magic time."  In my own personal experience and having taken a few photography classes I have not found magic time to be the best time.

  5. There is no correct answer here.It would all depend on the location where you are having the pictures made. Ask your photographer if you are using one what he/she thinks. If you are just having a friend take the picture take several shots at different times of the day. Then you can choose the one you like best.I am guessing from the question about time you are having the pictures made outside. If it is inside it doesn't really matter.
