  1. basically, you want to try for ap/may or sept since that's before & after tourist season but the weather is still fine.  be prepared for heavy rainstorms at anytime tho.

actually, sometimes those months don't work so  i have still traveled to france thruout the yr & it's great everytime.....make sure you buy a supply of truffles from the mkts to bring home!!!

  2. I would avoide the month of August... As this is when the french take their holidays....

The other people have good advice...

Just wanted to let you know that

  3. I've been there twice...July was very very very warm.  The second time I went was in late April/early May and it was awesome.  Perfect weather -- showers in the early morning, sunshine throughout the day, and lots of breezes.  I would definitely recommend late April.  Have fun!!

  4. Spring time if you visit the country side

Winter time is the best. People having so much fun and all family events and its just pure bliss...

  5. I've been there twice in late May/early June, and it was lovely.  Lots of wildflowers, not so many tourists, mostly good weather.  Wonderful flowering gardens in Alsace.  Cows and horses being driven to their high pastures in the Pyrenees.  Asparagus festivals.  Unfortunately, it was between the violet harvest and the lavender harvest in Grasse, where the flowers for perfumes are grown.  Can't have everything.

Don't go in August.  Too crowded in the resorts and too many officials and employees on holiday.

  6. depends what you want. August is normally bad in paris cos everyone goes on holiday so it is deserted and most shops are closed. July is very busy with tourists. End september october is normally nice weather, schools are back so not to touristy. Jan/feb for skiing in the alps

  7. Depending on where you wanna go !

South of France is good all year 'round (a short rainy period from january to april, when T° drop down a little, but no snow ! (it never frost where I am = palmtrees etc....)

The rest of the country is under continental influence ( big changes in T° depending on the season, rain and snow in winter)

The best period is according to your taste...I don't like it when it's cold...let's say from may to october...

  8. April -- showers --

  9. High holiday time is Bastille Day - 14th July - so a lot of people are on holiday and in the country areas a lot of things closed, plus camp sites & restaurants very busy.  However, you do get that holiday "high" feeling with French people feeling very happy.

It's also a good time for early harvests of things like peaches and globe artichokes, some of my favourite things.  I've always tended to go first two weeks in July before the Brit schools are in full holiday mood and heading across to Brittanny (my best places are Pont Aven and Port Manech areas), although I've enjoyed the Alps and Vendee regions.

Remember to try and speak French - even if you stumble through it badly, they will help.  If you insist on speaking English, the French will be indifferent!

My "break the ice" expression was always: "Pardon, Monsieur, mais mon mari dit que je parle le Francais comme une vache Espagnol"  Usually created a big laugh!!
