What is the best time to visit Germany this year, avoiding World Cup 2006?

i have plan to visit friends in Munich this year. what is the best time, considering weather, flight price (peak season) and World Cup?

I would go after the world cup if I was you. If you want to visit the famous "Oktoberfest" in Munich, go at the end of September.

This year it'll be crowded here, even before and after World Cup 2006. I would say September is probably the best time to go, the weather is still nice and it's off season so air fares and hotels should be fairly cheap.

i ve gone last year to germany in early december,and i really felt the christmass spirit that year,they were in every city weinachtsmarkt(big areas with christmass bazar,)selling all kinds of gifts,people drinking gluwein,hot wine really tasty,chocolates and bratwursts.

i think its the best season to visit and the time i have gone the plain tickets were not so expensive,u will really enjoy christmass there.

but if u dont want to spent ur holidays in bed because it s freezing cold that time of year dress well

August. Everyone in Germany is on vacation(Meaning that they often travel to other countries for the month) It is summer, the cities are not crowded, and hotels will be easy to get. If  you go during Oktoberfest time, you will have the crowd issue again.
