  1. It's hard to say because it's depending about what you like: mountain, beaches, historic buildings, etc.

    However, here are some suggestions:

    - The Alps: Switzerland (particularly the Albula Line) & Austria

    - Albany to New York City along the Hudson River

    - Alaska Railway

    - Canadian Rockies with VIA "Canadian" train or  the Rocky Mountaineer tour train. Hopefully, the British Columbia Ry doesn't have passenger trains anymore, it was the best!

    - French & Italian Rivieras:

    a) main line from Nice to Italy;

    b) meter gauge Chemin de Fer de Provence from Nice to inland;

    c) the Roya Bevera line on the French/Italian border from Nice (fr) and/or Ventimiglia (it), to Cuneo (it) thru Breil-sur-Roya (fr) and Tende (fr)).

    - Corsica (mountain meter-gauge railroad on this french island)

    - Cote Bleue (blue coast), a coastal suburban line west or Marseille, France.

    - The Cevennes mountains between Clermont-Ferrand and Nimes, in southern France. Over 100 tunnels in about 2 hours.

    - Northern Sweden/Norway between Kiruna (Sweden) and Narvik (Norway) thru fjords under late June's midnight sun.

    - Canada's Gaspesie between Matapedia and Gaspe, Quebec

    - Los Angeles to San Diego

    - Chicago - Los Angeles or San Francisco via the Grand Canyon

  2. zig zag railway up in the blue mountains or the train ride down from the three sister blue mountains

  3. I hear that the train from Anchorage to Fairbanks, Alaska which goes through Denali National Park is really good.

    I'm planning to try it this summer.

    As far as being the "best in the world", well that is relative to what each individual likes.

    If you want speed, then the bullet train in Japan goes over 150 MPH.

  4. The Rocky Mountaineer!

    Vancouver to Calgary, with a night in Kamloops.

  5. The one heading for home...
