  1. why do you need 4wd?

most people dont know tht 4wd is a fad that started in the 1990s

before that 95% of all trucks were 2wd, because most people dont need 4wd

if you need 4wd fine, shop around , they are all hard on gas

but if you dont NEED it , go with 2wd you will save a good 8-10mpg depending on the vehicle

    good luck

  2. a ford ranger would be the best.

a toyota tacoma if you can afford it (not U.S.)

    a Chevy Colorado.

Depends on budget and what year you want.

    Go to fueleconomy.gov

You can search by class ("pickup truck") or search a specific vehicle ("2004 Ford Ranger"). It gives you mpg for city and hwy, how much money you'll put into gas on avg. per year, and even how is scored in air pollution. You can choose wich motor and everything...very accurate site.

*update. Since you only want to spend $4500 then you can probably get a decent used ford ranger..may have higher miles on it but as long as it was maintained well they go forever. I have a family member with a 1995 ranger and it has over 200,000 miles. 4x4 works great and it runs perfect. I'd go with a used extended cab ranger (extended because they are small trucks and you'll need to room for guns if you bring a friend along.)

  3. 98 Nissan Frontier or Pathfinder

    Toyota 4Runner for a bit more $

Ford Ranger is a good truck and in your price range but the

    4X4s are not very reliable.

sticking to "american" is harder to find and not cheaper.

  4. the V6 Toyota Tacoma , itis really great car
