  1. some facts. 1) there is no loyalty in the trucking industry. not from companies or drivers. you have to look at whats best for you. if your new, training is a big deal. money 25 to 30 c. a mile and if you're doing good you'll get around 3000 miles a week ( about 500 a day). you won't get rich over night. 2) this is a killer job on personal relationships so you better have a really close, supportive family. you'll only be home a couple days every two weeks. any company that tells you they'll try to get you home every six months, run the other way. 3) your answer; all  five top companies have training programs. swift, j.b. hunt, Schneider, England, and knight. i guess I'll put my vote in for swift. i went Thur they're program and it worked for me 12years ago. good equipment, good road support, and good load planing. like i said its not perfect, but its a rough game. a year or so of experience, you can shop your labor to any company you like. good luck!

  2. To me, it depends on the contracts the company has, and how old is the fleet etc.

    Maintenance procedures are important too,

(you don't want to end up as part time mechanic!)

You didn't mention an industry, this makes a difference i think

  3. depends on what you want. Money Hometime, Benefits, Regional. Try JB Hunt or Schenider

  4. J B Hunt

  5. Small trucking companies are usually a lot better to work for than the big boys. The problem now is a lot of small companies are in jeopardy because of the increasing cost of everything needed to operate.

At a big company, you are just a number and a dollar sign. At a small company you are a person with a name.

When you call them ask them one question. Ask what criteria they use to determin a good driver from a bad driver. If their answer is on time deliveries, just say thanks, but no thanks.

  6. Try Crete Carriers.Their pay package looks good and a friend of mine has been there a few months and is mostly drop and hook with more miles than he can run.Heartland also pays well but there trucks look like Amish wagons and are eqipped the same.If you are in Florida stay away from LCT.I just left there a few months ago.Constant changing of management and no freight!Good Luck

  7. that answer is usually based on what are your needs.  Alot of companies offer alot of different things.  What are your needs?   call these companies and ask them what they offer and tell them your needs.   There is a long list that i usually ask a company recruiter, but be mindful that a recruiters job is to get you in their orientation so when your done with the recruiter, before you say send me the bus ticket, call back and ask for the driver lounge and get a drivers eye view of the company.   I have worked for a few slow truck companys, and ive worked for a few fast truck companies.  along the way ive learned that it dont matter what name is on the side of the door, your gonna catch flack from someone.  bottom line its gotta be what makes you happy in a company and roll with it ignoring what is being said about your company youve chosen.(usually the flack is from past experiences with non driving steering wheel holders with that company)

this will stir up some people, out of all companies ive driven for,  Prime Inc as a company driver or lease operator is pretty good for their benifits, hometime, terminals, equipment, and miles/pay.

I am local now home every night paid hourly and do just as good as OTR.

  8. it is all based on wheel time

more wheel time(safe wheel time) the better company you can get into

hey when you find that company though tell me ok

    goodluck
