Question:

What is the best type of martial art for me?

i'm 16 and i want to take martial arts for overall exercise/coordination (for sports)/self-defense (just in case). what's the best? jiu-jitsu? tae kwon doe? i know i can find a good teacher i just need to know which is best for me?

  1. If your short and stocky try Judo, if your tall and lengthy try karate or tae kwon do.  If your short and skinny try kung fu.

  4. Since you are 16, I am going to assume that you are still in high school.  Does your school have a wrestling team??  If so, then try that.

This is a tough question mate and no doubt many will understandably give advice that may be bias to their own martial art.  My advice- a little trial and error.  Give a few a go as most martial arts will have an intro like class.  By doing this it will give you a better idea of the best fit for you.  Good luck!

  6. for great exercise, judo/jiu-jitsu is really good. You are constantly on offense and defense at the same time, and it really helps with strength & endurance. I used to do Judo/Jiu Jitsu/Sambo, and trust me its probably the best exercise you will get.
