  1. there are way too many styles to list.

if you want to dodge punches, its hard to beat boxing in that department. thats their speciality.

be wary of mma and bjj though (just my opinion) ...mma is realistic in a sense..but there is alot they dont address. such as multiple attackers, or armed attackers. another thing is, half of the things someone might do to you is illegal in mma, and they don't address those issues at all. on the other side of the same coin, much of what would allow you (or anyone else) to overcome a "technically superior (fair) fighter" is illegal. most mma people seem to think they are illegal because they don't work. just remember those rules are in place to protect the fighters. finger locks, and other small joint locks do work if you can get them. finger jabs to the the eyes, kicks to the groin and knees really do work....almost too well. that is why they are illegal. but the best thing about mma, is that you are fighting against someone who is fighting back...arguably the best teacher of all is that very thing. so i submit that it isn't WHAT you train, but HOW you train that matters most.

and honestly bjj or sambo are good for groundfighting ability, and it is needed, but most of the time it's not where you want to be. (again multiple attackers or hidden weapons can ruin your day in a hurry especially if you're on the ground) but...its necessary to know in case you find yourself there. but i'd never take someone down and follow them there intentionally. personally i want them on the ground, and beat down, with me still standing so i can watch for their buddies, or roll/move out of the way if need be. (or simply to escape a dangerous situation)..there's no such thing as a fair fight. if you find yourself in a fair fight on the street, you didnt prepare well enough.

alot of karate, and or tkd, and wushu shcools are sport oriented, tip tap point sparring or about trophies, not about survival.

it's all about your goals, and what style, or combination of styles, inspired confidence in yourself. trust that.

  2. maybe tae kwon do or kungfu or judo, they are really good, personally i take tae kwon do

  3. mixed martial arts(mma)  its all of the GOOD fighting styles mixed together  what more do you whant

  4. As already said Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is great for a fight on the ground whether a sanctioned fight or for self defense. Most that would threaten you, or attack probably don't have the discipline and knowledge of a ground game. Brazilian Jiu Jitsu can dominate the ground.

Another great one, which is for stand up, is Muay Thai, a good Thai clinch with knees and elbows can take out any unexpecting fighter.

Krav Maga as well is great, but it is more of  a pure self defense skill. Some of the things in Krav Maga are amazing, learning all the ways to defend yourself in any position from pretty much any weapon.

Judo is a great form of taking an opponent down, learning how to throw them using their momentum and leverage more than using your strength and risking injury. Similar to Akido, but really Akido is designed to protect both the attacker and the defender from injury.

Savate is another one, a good form of kickboxing that derived from French Streetfighters and sailors. But in traditional kickboxing their are knees, in savate fighting you can kick your opponent but not with your shin or knee, only the foot. But you wear shoes, so it is not painful, but you have to be precise with your kicks.

There are many more, these are just a few I have always liked.

  7. Tactical krav maga i hear is very good. As is Krav maga. Its said to be 'no nonsense' self defence, focusing purely on gross motor skills (motor skills that can be carried out on the street relatively easily.. with training of course)

A lot of people also have high respect for muay thai, i've been told that it has a handful of techniques, and the combatants are taught to use those techniques, and use them HARD.

I did jujitsu for a while, it was great fun, but it was too far away, which is why i dropped it.

I have also done taekwondo, it wasnt really my thing, but it could have been the teacher?

    Hope this helps.

  8. If anyone tells you "MMA" do not listen to them, because MMA is a rules competition and not, I repeat not a style!
