  5. I've written in length about your question already.  But there is more you should be concerned with in addition to the style you choose.  You should consider the school, the instructor, price...much more.  I've covered all this in an article on my website.  Here is a snippet of what I have written.

First things first, determine what your goal for starting martial arts is. You've probably already figured this part out but it helps to spend some time here and really analyze why you are considering martial arts and whether or not it is what you need.

Write down the reason(s) you are starting martial arts so you can take a look at them. Number them in order of what is most important to you. Everyone has their own personal reasons for starting martial arts. But only you can be the best judge of why you are starting a journey into martial arts. It's all about what you want and why you want it.

Here is a list of some of the top reasons many people start training martial arts:

    Physical Fitness

    Self-defense

    Stress Reduction

    Recent Martial Arts Popularity

    Sport Competition.

    A new hobby.

    Interest in Martial Arts Culture.

(Above full length article is here:  http://www.socalmartialarts.com/martial-...

After that your next step is to research and investigate the different styles that are available.  Researching which style will be best for you won't be hard because socalmartialarts.com has a complete and comprehensive list of martial arts styles that will help you decide.

Each martial arts style's page provides an over-all description, history, videos, and other information that will help you understand each art and make your decision.

Then you need to pick the right school....and so on.

If you want to read the full articles on this go here:  http://www.socalmartialarts.com/choosing...

Most importantly, do your research now so your time isn't wasted later.

As for the 2 year old...well, that may be a bit too early.  The youngest I've seen train is 3 year olds, and that's pushing the line.  Best to wait till about 5-6 years old in my opinion.

    Hope this helps!
