  1. I saw a cooking show today in which the host said "cook with the same red wine that you plan to drink with" that same meal.

As his example, he was making a reduction sauce for rack of lamb and used a red Zinfendel (sp??) in the sauce because that was his wifes favorite red wine & he planned on serving it with the meal as well.  Hope this helps.

  2. use any cooking wine as it is less expensive than drinking wine. If using drinking wine all will work.

  3. i personally use cherry, cream cherry actually its great for almost all red meat and makes it sweet and tender. no after taste either like most red wines. hope this helps

  4. Not much of a red wine in food for me, I used Sherry once in a while. Any would do. I tried to used red wine once, and I bought the one with the Kangaroo on the label. Have fun.

  5. A merlot or Cabernet is fine. Just make sure it is something you would drink yourself!

  6. I have made many recipes with wine and have learned through trial and error that I should always use a wine that you would drink with the dinner.  It not only compliments the meal because it was used in the recipe but will help make your dish taste good rather than sour.  I do not buy expensive drinking wine for most occasions so would recommend something somewhat inexpensive, but it should taste good.  Ask your local liquor store what is popular in that type of wine and in your price range.  For your original question, use a dry red wine like a cabernet sauvignon or a merlot.
