  1. you dont have to study just one style,,try different ones,,,whats even available in your area?  whether you studying boxing or taekwondo or bjj,,you still better lift weights and hit your heavy bag at least twice a week, and of course, balanced diet.

One thing ive learn recently is that sport karate and self defense karate are two different things,,,you dont learn to deal with shoves, knife pulls, sucker punches in kickboxing class,,,,not that a kick boxer can't knock the fool out of you,,,but,,,,if a kickboxer is in a fight, you can just about bet someone pushed, grabbed, sucker punched at him to start with....and thats where self defense lies.

learn and love to free spar, but also know about the grabs/shoves/knife defenses also....you'll be good at it before you know it....good luck...

  2. The one that teaches you how to not get into a fight in the first place would be superior to those who just teach 'moves'.

  3. You are going to get a different answer from everyone. I personally like karate. My instructor is a police man, and we learn what to do when someone is choking you, or if they have u pinned to the ground and are strangling you. We do lots of practice of combinations. On the other hand, all of the sparring is competition based meaning that it i all done with rules, when in real life, there will be no rules, just someone attacking you! All schools are different, so, i would advise going to your local dojo/s and observing a class or two of each

  4. Hi

Juji-tsu for ground fighting and kick-boxing for stand up fighting.

  5. The fact is that most who have answered your question probably don't even train. kempo-jitsu and Rob have given good answers. realiaze that the person who says he is Krav Maga trained is probably not. the fact is most will recomend:

    1) What they take.

    2) What you see in the uFC generally by people who don't even train.

    3) A style they saw on fight quest or Human Weapon that again they don't train.

you will not see most of these poeple answer a question on how to actually do or perform a technique. they will tell you what the best style is all day, however you never see them answer when it comes down to an actual technique question.

    My advice is:

    1) locate all of the schools in your area, find out what style(karate and Kung Fu are generic names, and should have a specific style name) is taught there and research that style.

    2) Decide what your goals are, and which styles are more likely to fit those goals.

    3) Search for questions and answers on here about how to find a good school and instructor and what to avoid. there are many good answers on here.

    4) visit the schools you are interested in and watch at least two classes at each. Ask questions that you come up with from your search results.

    5) Pick the best school that you can afford, regardless of style, that will best help you meet your goals.

  6. Hands down best self defense is krav maga

    Krav Maga- Israeli self defense

    Video of demo session

    Anti Terror unit

Krava maga world trainer, ( not actually #1 )

Krav maga is an Israeli self defense, no matter your size strength or weight you can defend yourself and against multiple opponents if need, im only 5,8 and have learned krav maga form an Israeli commando,i am not scared of anyone because it gives you confidence, its all about speed, technique and mind set. Its called krav maga, check it out, i posted some youtube videos

    ,

In Krav Maga they learn how to defend themselves in any situation, knives, gun stick, multiple opponents, its all bio-mechanics , theres no fancy c**p, its get in, Stop your attacker, get out, stay safe

Just to add krav maga is a mix of jujitsu, judo, shudokan Karate, and mau-tai

  7. I have my 4 favorites that are essential in MMA training.  Boxing (focuses on striking with the hands), Muay Thai (striking with elbows, knees, and clinch fighting), Wrestling (take down and take down defense), and Jiu-Jitsu (ground grappling, the best defensive class in my opinion).

  8. Brazilian Jiu Jitsu or Krav Maga

  9. Japanese Jiu-jitsu I'd suggest..

    Best wishes :)***

  10. the best style depends on many many things. your height, weight, reach, agility. and most importantly...you goals???? streetfighting? cage fighting? sport? fitness?

also the first thing you have to ask is...what arts/schools are available in my area? start there.

no art is better than any other. krav maga is just a bunch of other stuff re-hashed. nothing new. it's a good art. but no better than any other in my opinion. the art doesnt make you great...you make the art great.
