I recently bought and gutted a house built in 1952. We are just about ready to sheet rock. I don't know what type of sheet rock to buy. Is there one type that stands out above the rest. Should I use mold resistant throughout the entire house?

  1. You can but you'll pay more. If mold isn't a constant issue because of climate ( as opposed to improper vapor barrier installation or a leak) then I'd use standard 1/2" sheets. Check local building codes as some may require 5/8" on ceilings, or in garages. You could use the mold resistant in the bathrooms as an added selling feature and still keep the cost down on the entire project.

  2. Use the green water proof in the kitchen around the sink and in the bathrooms at a minimum.   Mold proof if you live in a damp, humid area or if you may get floods.
