  1. The best type, is a handmade surfboard. If you buy from Ebay, you won't get a chance to look it over, and may buy the wrong board for a new surfer. Once you arrive in Australia, go to a surf shop, talk to the salespeople, explain your skill, and look for a clean used surfboard. Tell Dad that the used board in a shop will be cheaper than a surfboard on Ebay.

  2. ok. well first, i highly suggest not buying from e bay beacuse the surfboards there can be horrible and have dings and dents and openings which can ruin your board. John F usually says "try before you buy" and that can be some really good advice. you should go to a surfshop to get the board.

to answer your question, rusty and al merrick are my favorite brand boards. they are great.

if you are new to surfing, i suggest that you get a funboard or a mini-mal. they are long and boyant enough for you a beginner. if you have some experience and you want to try a new thrill of surfing. i suggest that you get a shortboard or a fish. fish are a little easier to ride because they are more boyant. just make sure that the board is atleast 4 inches taller than you. hope this helps. have fun surfing!
