  1. Well, one thing is the type of the vehicle (sedan, coupe, SUV, truck, etc) and another is the brand.

For the type of vehicle it really depends on your needs and taste, recently with gas prices so high the most wanted vehicles were the small sedans and mid size crossovers, but if you like to cruise on the beach and get a fun vehicle problably a sport coupe is what you are looking for, by the contrary if you need a family car and have the need to move big stuff sometimes well maybe a truck or SUV will be perfect.

About brands, due experiences and referrals I no longer trust brands like Ford, Dodge, Chevrolet, Mitsubishi, Saturn, I have no doubt that all vehicles have some QC inspection and with the right maintenance all brands should be good and reliable, however if you go to statistics and awards by the companies who test all the brands (without any relationship to them) you'll know why I no longer trust brands like the ones I mentioned before.

Over the years I've seen and heard horror stories with those cars, after that I only have bought Imports, brands like Nissan and Toyota are realiable and affordable, just take a look at the older cars on the street, is more likely to see an old Nissan or Toyota than a same year Ford or Dodge. a coworker drives an 87 corolla with over 300k miles and it's still running strong, Uncle got tired of a problematic ford taurus, a cousin got an explorer that won't run after 2 years of buying brand new, and I know many people who will chose a Japanese car because they have earned a good reputation and it seems to be true, they are not perfect of course, but they are much better cars in my opinion.

Of course there's another level of cars which are expensive but definitely the best on every aspect and I'm talking about BMW and Mercedes Benz, and they have entry level cars that are not so expensive and will get you an excellent car, however expect insurance and repairs to be very expensive.

I hope this helps on the choose of your next vehicle, Good Luck!
