  1. UC Davis, Cornell, OSU, UGA, U Penn.....all have good equine vet programs.  Some are much better than others, but look into all of them to see what might fit you best.  Some of those are harder to get into and more expensive, like Cornell.  But OSU and UGA have great programs and would give you an excellent education with a bit less cost.  You might like a bigger school like UC Davis, or a smaller one like OSU.  All are things to consider.  You want to go to the school that will give you the best education in the best enviornment for YOU.

    Good luck!

  2. penn, located in philadelphia, is our country's very first vet school.  they are also considered "the best", closely followed by cornell.

  3. U.C. Davis is a good one.  They have a fantastic facility.

  4. UC Davis is one of the top schools for veterinary medicine. The are the ones who have found the homozygous gene for paints and appy's. They have a great veterinary school and livestock genetics program.

  5. CSU (Colorado State University!)

  6. im 15 too and want to do the same thing.

i heard UC davis and Cal Poly are awesome schools to go to for equine studies.

  7. UC Davis in california and Colorado state are the best equine veterinary schools in the country.  Findlay in Ohio is a great place to start the prevet studies at.

  8. Try Missouri University. I've herd they have an excellent veterinary section. you may also want to look at William Woods. They have an EXCELLENT equine program. I'm not sure if it's just for riding but, you defiantly want to check it out!!!

  9. Tufts Veterinary School is renowned, and known for producing many great vets, but many drop out because they realize that this is not the career path they want. But some people love, and become very successful. Lets hope for the latter one! Good luck

  10. UC Davis (long tradition as the best)

University of Kentucky (and right in the middle of the horse capital of America, too!)

    Cal Poly

  11. California. I have had a lot of friends attend these universities. I also had a few vets who also attended these universities.

    UC Davis

    CSUF (Fresno)

    Cal Poly

P.S  What is up with all these people giving thumbs down??!??!??................sounds like a personal attack more than judging the answer.

  12. University of Pennsylvania is one of the best in the country. I believe Cornell is THE best in the country. UPenn also is home to The New Bolton Center and all vet grad students do rotations throughout the facility as an overall part of attaining their DVM; those who wish to specialize in equine vet medicine, participate in cutting-edge specialization techniques and procedure there. Barbaro was at New Bolton.

ADD: I added a link - couldn't find World and New Report's 2008 ranking, so it's from 2007. I also noticed certain undergrad schools now actually offer a vet major as opposed to pre-vet major. You should look into that, especially to help you really bolster up on your chem, bio chem, and organic chem. Here's the link: http://www.usnews.com/usnews/edu/college...

Brief Recap of Top Four in US:

    Cornell #1

UC-Davis tied for #2 with Colorado State University

    UPenn #4

Study your butt off and start including things that really get you noticed. A friend of mine graduated UPenn with a DVM and she got into UPenn bc she had awesome grades and a high score on the MCAT (most DVM programs require a combination of the GRE, MCAT, or VCAT these days dep. on the specific program), but she also did this unusual advanced aviary research project and internship in costa rica. She always claimed it was things like that that got her and her peers into the UPenn program.

Good luck!!!! We really need more good equine vets.

  13. Cornell.  My vet from Rood and Riddle (one of the best orthopedic clinics in the world) graduated from there.  Excellent school.  TOUGH to get into.

University of Colorado. My vet from Hagyard (BEST equine reproduction clinic anywhere in the world) graduated from there.

As for the University of Kentucky suggestion, they don't have a vet school.  They recommend Auburn.  (UK is my Alma Mater).
