I bought a JVC upconverting DVD player for $60 thinking that all upconverting DVD players were the same. As of now, the outputs for the DVD player is damaged and I plan on buying a new one (a better brand particularly) not making the same mistake. I also want to get a better upconversion picture because the one on JVC was grainy. There were small black dots going across all the screen and I know it was the DVD player and not the HDTV I have. I plan on buying an upconverting DVD player now, and then buy a Blu-Ray player when it becomes more affordable.

  1. You should check with some consumer groups to see if they have any impartial tests/reviews.  The sites in Australia suggest sticking with brand names such as panasonic and lg, but that is just over here.  Sometimes you might have to pay for test results from these kinds of organisations online, but other times no.  Also, shopping comparison sites often have customer reviews both of products and their stores.
