We have a Dirt Devil Reaction and it sucks. Actually, it doesn't suck which is the problem. It works mediocre on carpet but on hardwood floors and tiles it just moves the dirt around.

  1. I have never liked Dirt devil I have always had great luck with hoover and kenmoore. It sounds like it might be clogged though. However, the carpet companies are telling people not to use vacuum cleaners that have a beater bar(which is what holds the belt in) it wears the carpet down, can make it untwist , fuzz and they won't warranty the carpet, they suggest using the vacuum without the beater bar and just let the suction do it's job

  2. According to Consumers Reports the best vacs, in their tests, were the Eureka 'Boss' for uprights and the Kenmore 'Progressive' from Sears for canisters.

  3. The Dyson by far is the best vacuum.  If you have a 20 percent off coupon from Bed Bath and Beyond that helps a lot.  Plus, BBB is very good with returns.  I have returned several vacuums of the past few years without receipts and they always return them without any issues.  Recently my dog peeded on my Dyson and everytime I ran it, I could smell pee.  I took it to BBB and they returned it for the full price in Store Credit.  I bought my newest one from them with the store credit and used my 20 percent off coupon.  I got the same just upgraded model plus the difference of 20 percent off in store credit which ended up being about 120.00.  I didnt tell them about the dog peeing on it, I just said that the suction has weakend.

  4. disun (sp?)

  5. Me personally I like my Kenmore  (the yellow one) I bought at Sears.  It has a dirt sensor to tell you when you floors are clean! It was around $300. If you are wanting a good vacuum you will have to pay the price. Don't mess with the cheap one at wal-mart and places like that.

  6. I have the pet Dyson and I HATE it.  They would be very wise to buy it back from me.  I have two long haired dogs and fur  wraps around the beater bar and it has to be cut off nearly every time. Other wise it gets under the belt and it slips and smells like burning rubber!!! YUCK  I wrote Dyson about the problem and they said you must maintence it.  WELL I have had my Hoover for  nearly 20 years and maybe a handful of times have I had to cut hair off the beater bar. I have since bought the new pet Bissell and love it!! Half the money and so much better. It however is quite heavy but it does a wonderful job.  I took my Dyson to work with me (no pets there) and all the ladies that work there HATE the Dyson and dread when they have to use it.  LOL  So it is not just me.  Good luck.  PS Consumer Reports does recommend one of Sears canisters.
