What is the best video camcorder for under $1000?

price LIMIT- $1000

preferred price range $500-$700

must be able to be edited on a computer!

does not need to have any effects or anything, just a camcorder will do fine.

Presume the following assumption:

MiniDV provides the best available video quality (as compared to hard drive, flash memory and DVD based camcorders)...

I would suggest the Canon HV20, HV30, Sony HDR-HC7 or HC9. All are miniDV tape based, shoot in high definition or standard definition, have mic-input jacks and manual audio control... among other manual (and all automatic) capabilities.
