What is the best video card for Sims 2?

I'm having alot of trouble getting my Sims 2 to run fast, everything is very slow and choppy, I talked to the site about my problem and they had me buy a video card. That was just earlier this year.

My processor is AMD (Athlon), the card is NVIDIA GeForce FX 5500, 1.25 GHz, 224 MB of RAM. All that kinda confuses me, I've got many expansion packs, and I do plan on buying more. Any tips on fast game play, where to buy a new card (I'd like specific names, prices, places to buy them). It would be much appreciated!

You have to figure out what kind of motherboard and graphics slot you have available. If your card is as old as FX5500 I'm guessing you're limited to AGP in which case your options are also limited, however you can still find a nice card very cheap. The FX5500 is attrocious, and the Sims 2 is actually quite a graphically hungry game, and now Sims 3 is coming out in only 6 months.
