Question:

What is the best way for a restaurant to advertise?

I 'm considering direct mail advertising. Using my restaurant menu as the item to send out with an offer attached. I would like to mail by zip code ' carrier route'. Is this something I can do myself? Where do I secure all the listings?

  1. Try advertising with some smaller, cheaper sites like rmbdomains.com.  They offer several effective advertising solutions 1 being great for local restaurants. Check it out!

  2. Integrate all of your marketing channels.

Use your website as the centerpiece. Update it daily with daily specials, downloadable coupons, maps and a picture of the building's exterior. A downloadable menu is also nice.

Then, print your site's address on every piece of print and electronic ad you use in the business - menus, print ads, TV/radio spots, business cards, URL cards, invoices - everything.

Use your site to tell your story and use everything else to point to the place where the story is told.

Also, by posting daily specials and offering on-line reservations or ordering, you create site stickiness. You'll see a lot of repeat site traffic.

Finally, optimize for local search with search engines by including your geo-specific region as a keyword. This avoids having to make deliveries to Zaire.

Integrate all of your marketing channels to create synergies.

    Good luck,

  3. The best to advertise a restaurant would be

the use of word of mouth if cost considerations

    would be built in.

Based on that, you can make small tickets which

you give to anyone who makes a purchase in your

restaurant, then print small handbills and on it

say something like "eat three times and get free

    xyz on the next visit"

Have the handbills distributed around or when

people come in groups of 4 or 5, give something

    free.

Something else you can try is...

If you have a beach around, hire a few kids (pay

with a free meal) and get them to write the name

of your restaurant and address every 10 to 15paces

    all over the beach.

You can also make Tee shirts with your name and

address and give to customers who have visited

you  repeatedly 4 to 5times. They'll wear it and attract

    visitors for you.

  4. Before you do any mailings contact me about Text Marketing.

you can advertise specials and promotions directly to the prospects cell phone.  Mailers are a waste of money... the list. the printing and the odds of someone looking at it...

    don't waste your time!!!

  5. Direct mail is becoming less and less effective, no matter what the salesman may try to tell you. (Unless you offer food delivery, in which case mailing out your delivery menu might draw new business.) I'd recommend investing your budget in a website and internet marketing.

A good website will go a long way. Try to get the word out your restaurant via services like CitySearch. Get regulars to review your site on Yelp or other consumer-driven websites (don't make up reviews).

This really depends on your location and the type of restaurant you own, but hopefully this will get you started :)
