The thought of having to go back to an office since I was laid off nauseates me. I would love to just be able to work from the comfort of my own apartment.

I like art, craft making, am good with computers... What is a good way for me to start earning a decent income from home?

  8. Not everyone is meant to work from home and there are no easy ways to do it because you must be disciplined and knowledgable in what you're doing but you can make more money working for yourself than for someone else. What's important is to find and fill a need. You need to market yourself and your goods/services to get the word out. It's easy to start a business but difficult to run it and make it successful. Have you thought about opening a website design company? What about taking in your crafts and others on a commission based website that targets your audience? Maybe you can teach craft making in group settings? Think about writing a book on your experiences and topic of knowledge and research. Whatever you do, think outside the box. You don't have to be the first at whatever you do... you just have to be the best. Wanting a business to make money isn't the best motivation... providing a need is how you'll achieve success. Now is a great time to get out a piece of paper and pen (or word document) to brainstorm skills, experiences, interests, knowledge, and then define what you'll do and who you'll do it for. Start a business plan no matter how informal it is. If you can't be successful on paper, you won't be successful in real life. When you do what you love and love what you do, the money will follow.
