Question:

What is the best way for straightening your hair? / Is a hair straightener bad for your hair?

I've been wondering to buy a hair straightener. I have curly hair myself, very much curls, but not WAY too much. And I like straightened hair more than curled, and I'd like to have straightened hair everyday. So I've got two questions: What is the best way to straighten my hair? And if a hair straightener is the best, is it bad for your hair to use it everyday? Because I have read somewhere that using bad hair straighteners burns your hair, so I wonder if that's also the case with everyday straightening.

  1. Straightening can and will hurt your hair.  However, if you use a straightening shampoo/conditioner, it will help/save your hair.  Trust me, I straighten my hair almost everyday, and since I started using the shampoo and conditioner, my hair is a lot healthier.  They also make styling products from hair straightening, they'll help you too.

  2. If you have curly hair, there isn't really any other way to straighten it.

[As far as I know. lol.]

If you have long hair, you could end up frying the ends if you use a straightener everyday. When i have to straighten my hair, I use a straightening serum, so it protects your hair from the heat.

    Hope this helps.

    :]

  3. Yes hair straightners are bad but if you buy a good one usually the more expensive the better, your hair won't damage as much

  4. Well ya it would be bad, but it would look way better, from what you tell me. i would suggest just getting repairing shampoos and heat sprays to protect and get your hair soft and shiny. use Wet-to-Straight by Con-air,  and put it on a low setting, while your hair is dry! That's why  a lot of times why people fry their hair, the setting is on way too high, and using it while their hair is wet (even though it is wet to straight) !! I would suggest Dove products (not just for girls) You don't have to use the full line, but i would suggest using at least the conditioner!!

    Conditioner:

I HAVE THIS AND IT WORKS!!

The wet to straight iron(use while hair is dry on low setting!!):

  5. why not leave it alone?

  6. It can be bad if you do it everyday. Straighteners dry up the hair and make it prone to breakage. The best thing to do is alternate between straightening it, and not straightening it.

  7. get the wet 2 straight straightner from conair, its affordable and works great. About damage, don't straighten your hair everyday, i straghten mine at least every weekend or every other weekend.

  8. Hi

You could use a straightening syrum after showering but yes, using a hair straightener is the only sure-fire way to get straight hair and yes, sadly it is very damaging to use everyday! BUT! There's hope. I used to straighten my hair everyday and I've talked to a stylist about that and she said that you can buy heat protection spray that you put in your hair before you straighten it and it protects the hair from damage.

The one I used cost only $4 at Sally's Beauty Supply. It's called Turn Up the Heat and is like the generic version of the more expensive BedHead product.

  9. Straighteners are good but it depends on how curly/ thick your hair is.

I have really thick hair and it doesn't work at all when I straighten it, but a friend of my has thin hair and it is fine when she straightens it. I use products to straighten my hair and it works really well. Plus in order to really straighten your hair well with a straightener you would have to buy a really expensive one.

Another option would be to have your hair chemically straightened. But that cost a lot and is really bad for your hair. And it is true that if you use an straightening iron it dries out your hair.

So it really depends on the time that you have and the money your willing to spend on what you should do. Products can cost a lot depending on the quality and how often you use them. And so can Straighteners. Plus they're time consuming. Having your hair chemically straightened is efficent but very damaging.

I personally would use products because its easier.

PS I like curly hair better than straight

  10. i wouldn't recommend straightening your hair every day. give it a break at least one day a week and use a deep conditioner at least once a week as well. also only straighten your hair once it is completely dry and move the straightener slowly over the section of hair so you only have to go over it once. (also i would recommend a chi iron)

  11. use a ginalli hair straghtener

or go to your hair dresser and ask for the best type of perfessional hair straghtener. and if you don;t use the right type of hair straghtener,

i got mine from a recent fair

and theyre usually 189 and i got it for 99.

    heres the website:

    www.ginalli.com

there 100% cermaic so they wont burn your hair...

and there is a life time warently on them.:]

  12. You should look for some shampoo or cream taht straightens hair..

And if u do straighten ur hair alot with a ahir straightner..

    It will damage it..

  13. Well, it depends how much you do it. I have a friend who constantly straightens her hair and her hair looks burnt or thin, stringy. Though, this has developed over a time of years.

  14. Hii. I dont think you should use a hair straightener everyday because if you do it will make your hair thinner and thinner. And people with curly hair do have thick hair [[and thats really good]]. Dont ruin your hair by straightening it everyday. A few times a week wouldn't hurt. Your hair will be fine. I think the best way to straighten your hair is the straightner.

    GOOOOOOD LUCKKKK!!!! Hope i helped!!!

  15. Yes, it's bad for your hair. It burns it and makes it weak and brittle and stuff. If you really like it more straight, you can go to a hair salon and get it permanently straightened. As far as I know, it's less damaging to your hair in the long run, since you're not frying it every day.

Some of my friends blow dry their hair straight, although blowdrying isn't too great for your hair either. If you want to blowdry it straight, use a comb or brush to brush it straight, because when it's wet it'll flatten out if you brush it, then blowdry it that way. Keep brushing while blowdrying to keep it straight.

  16. Ceramic straighteners are not as bad for your hair.

Also you should wear prtective spear when you straighten you hair so that you don't really damage it.

And buy a good one if you are going to use ti for a long time (like a Chi or even a Sedu).

    Good luck!

  17. Well first of all..ALL straighteners damage your hair if you use them everyday..but there are ways to prevent the damage.

1: Minimise the heat setting on the straightener when you straighten your hair. This reduces heat damage.

2:Buy a protective spray. These sprays are vitamin enriched to coat your hair and minimise the damage

By the way Ghds are very good straighteners.Babyliss also have really good straighteners for about half the price.

    I hope this helps

  18. I would say a straightener would be the best way. However it does damage your hair, you may get some breakage, so you would want to get some sort of anti-damage spray that makes the heat from the straightener not so bad...

    hope I could help!

  19. yes straighters do burn your hair if you use it to often. but my hair solonist told me two first blow my hair kind of straaight first then use an iron and use some sort of spray to protect it it called (it's a 10)

    i hope i helped

  20. Chemically Straightened - You can go to a hair salon and ask to get your hair chemically straightened.  It might not make your hair STICK straight (depending on the wavy/curliness of your natural hair) so you will probably still need to straighten it a little.  The chemicals can be harmful to your hair, but as long as you go to a salon who knows what they are doing, you should be fine :)

Straightening Iron - These can be very damaging to your hair if you do it a lot.  Use products to help protect your hair from the damage of straightening.  Some good straighteners are the Chi and the Sedu.  They cost around $100 and they are very nice straighteners.  They heat up very quickly and they can also be used to curl your hair.

Here is a good site for buying nice straighteners: http://folica.com

    Straightening Without Blowdrying-

I usually dont even bother to blowdry my hair before i straighten it. A lot of the time i just let it air dry and then straighten it.  But there are straighteners that can be used on wet hair.  For example, the Remmington Wet2Straight.  I used this straightener before i got the Sedu and it works well.  It dries your hair as well as straightening it.
