Question:

What is the best way of getting out of design work for a product that I don't want to help sell?

I am a freelance designer. I have been asked by an important client of mine to work on a project that involves selling junk food. I don't want to insult the client, or tell them what to do, but I really don't want to be involved in this project. Should I lie and tell them I'm too busy to do the project, or should I tell the truth and explain why I don't want to be involved. Any advice on the most tactful way I can get out of this situation would be greatly appreciated.

  1. lie, telling them the truth will offend them more and they definitely will not use your services again. you are in business and ultimately want to earn cash so go the whole hog, i.e "i would love to fit you in but i am behind on the work i have already got and am terribly disappointed to let you down and hope this does not effect any future projects blah blah. taking the moral highground is bad for business so if you are going to do it just do it on your terms good luck.

  2. Delay, but that will cause considerable damage to your relations with the Client. No one like to wait indefinitely.

Best will be to have an interview, with your Client, and very politely convey your view point.

    With all the Best.

  3. it seems that people who tell the truth loose out... So if your clients not reading this----- then your ok

cant you design something that suits you both add an apple or use healthy colours or something you are the designer think and you will find a way

  4. What's more important to you: your morals or this client?

Either way if you don't do this job he may prefer the person he employs instead and not come back to you in future

If you can afford to lose the client then good for you, it's good to stick to your morals but if not you might wanna bite ur lip on this one
