I have the afternoon off work and my wife wants me to paint our bricks and slabs in the back garden, as they're starting to look a little faded away. The only paint I have to hand is dulux matt emulsion is that any good? or should I take a trip to B and Q for different stuff? what would you recommend?

Thanks.

  1. No thats useless you need masonary paint

  2. use masonary paint for the bricks, i would not recomend painting slabs but if you must use oil based antislip floor paint. both these paints are available at your nearest dulux trade centre.

    p.s. 24 years as a decorator

  3. Some kinds of bricks shouldn't be painted.  I can't remember why, I was taught that at college 30yrs ago.  Never painted any since.  You also make a rod for your back as you'll have to keep doing it.

If you must, then treat them as masonry and use something like Dulux weathershield masonry paint or at least any exterior masonry paint.  Thin the first coat down so it soaks in and grabs the bricks a little.  There is no specific primer for masonry.

  4. dont paint your bricks because it will make the profit of the house go down.

  5. with a brush
