Try these blogging platforms:

www.blogger.com - it has everything you need and you do not need to pay anything, not even domain name and hosting - completely free for you and it is owned by Google.

www.wordpress.com is really good and you can customize a lot but you will have to upload pluggins yourself and pay for domain names and hosting otherwise it is good. But any one of the two will meet your needs and are really good.

1) If you want a second level domain space (e.g. http://yourblog.blogspot.com) try www.wordpress.com or blogger.com as he said.

2) If you want your own domain name for your blog but hosting taken care of free, then try freehostia.com
