What is the best way to advertise my home-based candle business?

Hi all!

I have a very small home-based candle business and am having a problem getting traffic to my page! I have some very UNIQUE pieces of art and I know that they could and would be big sellers if I could get more people to see them. See for yourself at

  1. The best way is using payperclick advertising at google adword and yahoo.You can target your customer.You can try to promote your product at high traffic free classified site.It's free too promote.You can get more customer from that.


  2. Last Saturday's Wall Street Journal had an entire section devoted to this topic.   Everyone wants more visits.  They interviewed experts. Read it. The obvious answer was to add the words "Real Estate, Computers, Cell Phones" to your site but that is cheating in my mind. /

  3. The best (and fastest) solution would be to partner with someone in the same niche as you...someone with a good mailing list.

    Simply get them to mail, to their list, an offer for your product, and split the profits with the list owner (be generous...the great bulk of your revenue will come from back-end sales.)

    As you grow your own list, you have opportunity after opportunity to make repeat sales to those same people, over and over again.

  4. I have created a sale community where you can advertise your business or sale for free locally or nationally.  It gives you an opportunity to advertise nationally for free as well as locations you may be locally (such as at craft shows etc).

  5. I looked at your site and you have some really cute ideas!  

    You really have a challenge trying to build your business online because you are competing against a lot of candle companies.  

    Some suggestions:

    1) If you can, try to make your candles with 100% natural vegetable waxes instead of candles that contain paraffin.  (It might help with everyone trying to "go green" and use renewable resources instead of petroleum-based products like paraffin)

    2) Build a local customer base through craft fairs, community festivals and holiday bazaars and grow it from there. (Most people like to be able to actually smell a candle before they buy and look for brands or scents they are familiar with)

  6. take your artwork and candles to arts and craft fairs, make up business cards. you can also pay search engines to have your website pop up based on specific search words.

  7. Like Zen said, having business cards/coupons available at local craft fairs is a great way to generate business and create word-of-mouth buzz.

    Also make sure that your website is part of your email signature and your signature on any sites you post comments on.

    It also helps to find complementary small businesses and see if you can do a reciprocal links deal -- you link to them on your site and they will do the same for you.

    Lastly, it's often not very expensive to advertise in a local newspaper. Or call the features editor and pitch a story -- have them interview you as a profile on a small business owner for a publication.
