I am studying in UK and want to move to Canada for citizenship along with my partner. What is the best way to ensure the most possible positive outcome if I apply for it ?

  1. You can't apply for Canadian citizenship unless you live there. The only exception to that is if one of your parents is Canadian, in which case you're probably a Canadian citizen by birth and simply need to get your paperwork in order with Canadian authorities.

    If your partner is a Canadian citizen, and when you're done studying and wish to immigrate to Canada together, then you can seek to apply for a permanent residency with the help of your partner.

    Also, you could and should contact the Canadian embassy in the UK for more information.

    As a foreigner, you will have to reside in Canada for a minimum of 3 years on a permanent residency basis before you can apply for Canadian citizenship.


  2. Check with the Canadian consulate in the UK.

  3. You will need to get a work visa first.  Citizenship would be several years in the future.
