  1. Yes, you need to be licensed to be an insurance adjuster.  Many areas offer classes, and you sit for your licensing exam at the end.

You may want to call insurers or adjusting firms in your area.  Sometimes they will pay for or reimburse for training if you agree to work for them for X amount of time after you are licensed.

Once hired you'll need to familiarize yourself with the ins and outs of the policies of the insurers your firm represents.

    Good luck!

  4. Many Cat adjusters start out as staff adjusters with a major carrier. Most insurance companies require a 4 years degree now. It does not matter what the degree is in - but you got to have it. So- start with applying to the major companies. I will tell you - property positions are much harder to find. The most turn over is in the automobile side of things.

I started doing auto liability and after a few years was able to get on with a company doing automobile and property. Sometimes its easier to take what experience you can get and then  work from inside the industry to get to the area you want to be in. It can take years though. It's not a fast process.

You can also apply directly to the independent companies as well. An independent adjusting company is one that an insurance company hires to bring in extra man power.  You can do a google search to locate independent companies. Some independents (like Pilot) do nothing but chase storms.

Once a company hires you - they will send you to school for training and help you get licensed in your area.
