Get some Neet's Foot oil or some other kind of baseball glove conditioner and coat it all over the mitt.  Let it set overnight and do it again then wipe any excess off.  Put two baseballs in the webbing, one in the end and one underneath it and wrap it up with lots of rubber bands and put it under your mattress for two to three days.  When you take it out beat it up.  Throw it around, kick it around, throw a ball in it over and over again, bend it every which way, and wrap it up with the balls and rubber bands under your mattress every night .  I'm serious, you have to soften it up.  Do all this everyday until its broke in the way you want.  The one other guy was correct, using it is also important.

I've always heard rub it down with oil, put a baseball in the pocket and wrap it string or rubber bands.

Sports Authority sells some oils that loosens the leather. When I played I usually just put it underneath my mattress. Depends on how soon you need it broken in.
