Going to a car auction is the best way to buy a car, unless you're looking for a brand new car. Other than that your best bet is to go to a car auction because you can get a good car from there for way less than what you would pay elsewhere. And since a lot of people are getting their cars repossessed lately, they have a lot of nice, newer model cars there for dirt cheap.

Car auctions are good, as long as you know what to look for, mechanically speaking (e.g rust, weird sounds, leaks etc), just don't start bidding too early!. Online sites like Autotrader are good to, plus they usually have a guide on what to look for in a car. You can get good deals through private adds if you look hard enough...

I've no idea about leasing. If you want a really posh car maybe it's a good way to go, but if you're after an old runabout to get you from A to B, you'll probably end up spending more in rent than the car's actually worth after awhile!

Of course, you could buy new, if ya gots the money! Cars lose there value so quickly now, it's really not worth it.

leasing is ok if you want a new car every 2-3 years. But intense driving and even the slightest little ding can cost you. Local papers are not my favorite choice cause you wind up with someone's head ache.

Best way to handle this is to find a good used car from the dealer. Ask them what they want for it in cash. Go to the bank and have them finance it. Some will give you a cashiers check payable to the dealer. This way, you avoid a lot the useless extras that the fiance manager tries to sell you to get commission. All you need is a basic warranty and you should be set.
