  1. if you call from a landline phone, you can get a SISAL EDICARD Europe-USA for 10 euro and you have 360 minutes to call EVERY phone in US, mobile or landline, no matter which state of the US.

Using that card on a mobile phone (calling from a mobile) for the same price you have 50 minutes instead of 360, of course is worth using a landline phone to call home.

To get the card, go to a Tabacchino, where they sells cigarettes and stationery, ask for the SISAL EDICARD to call USA.

You can purchase the amount that you prefere.

Then call the number written on the card, it starts with 800-x*x-x*x

the menu is also in english, just press 2 when you listen the voice

you must type your 12 digits number and then the number in US 001-x*x-x*x-xxxx

    hope to be helpful :)

  2. Are you bringing a computer / laptop?  Does your hotel have internet access?

The cheapest way to call back to the US is with Skype or Vonage.

Skype is free to other Skype users via computer

Vonage is $29 a month for unlimited calling to land or mobile phones.

With Vonage your internet access must be wired and you have to have a land phone to hook up with it.  Could really be worth it though.

Also you could get an Unlocked 3G or GSM cellphone and then buy a local sim card for much cheaper calls within Italy and probably $.99 a minute back to the US.

  3. when i was there in June we had an impossible time with calling home, we weren't able to find the correct access number, so we ended up calling collect and that cost us $76 for 8 min conversation.  ~$5 ever 30 sec. you global phone sounds like thee best idea.

  4. I took a trip to Italy in June and I bought a calling card called Europa.  It was very cheap 5euros and it lasted me for an entire week.  I used the card from the hotel room (land line) because if you used it at a public payphone then the minutes would be used twice as much.

You can buy the calling cards at any shop called "Tabachi" or in an internet cafe (not all of them sell it though"

  5. buy a calling card and use a pay phone. its cheaper and easier go over seas all the time to Europe
