  1. Basil is an outdoor plant, and the only time you will find it indoors is if you grow it from seed early spring/late winter. It is a lover of warm climates, after all it originated, from India and  Asia, where it has been cultivated for over 5000 years. It is a relative of the Mint family. If you are putting the plants in, set them at 1foot apart, and once they get going they may need to be pruned every week or so. It also has other beneficial properties, such as, it is a sedative, good for headaches, and relaxing, it is also a good medicine, for stomach cramps, Vomiting, and constipation, what more would you want. All this information comes from the "Ohio State University, so it's right up your street.   Oh it does not like being left without water for too long....
