My friend and i rescued a baby mouse from her cat. The mouse didn't seem to have been injured. there were no cuts of any kind and the mouse seemed to be moving fine. We looked it up and the mouse seems to be about a week old. I would say exactly seven days. That means the eyes and ears aren't opened, but it does have fur. We read that kitten formula was the best substitute for milk, but we didn't have any of that on hand so we found a substitute for kitten formula-just cat food soaked in milk, then warm the milk. We've been able to get some of that into her, though we definitely don't have the ideal solution right now. We just used a syringe and then a piece of paper towel which she nursed on and seemed to take to well. And yes, i made sure none of it broke apart in her mouth. I've been reading a lot of conflicting information on the web about the best care for a baby mouse. This one seems to be either a deer mouse or a white-footed mouse. I'm leaning towards deer mouse, though. So, what exactly should I do for this little guy?

  1. you can try human baby formula. its the SOY formula in POWDERED form and you add water to it. try not to get too attatched to it. my rat had 9 babies and rejected them and i tried and all of them died. i even stayed up all night to feed them every 2 hours.

  2. Obviously you've discovered that there isn't an artificial nipple small enough...Great idea with the syringe....

Kitten formula sounds like a great idea...Think about what a mouse eats and what a cat eats...Pretty much the same thing..

But please do this...Add a little raw egg yolk to the mix...PACKED with nutrients and fat for a growing little body..And please don't forget the fact that every living mamal needs some sunlight for vit. d...essential for growth...Please take the little guy outside a couple times a day and let him soak up the rays for a few minutes...Good luck ! :-)

I forgot to mention...Just like a tiny kitten or puppy...Momma licks the booty etc. to stimulate potty and poo...Please use a paper towel or piece of tp to help the little guy eliminate so he doesn't get clogged up.. :-)

  3. I don't know about keeping them alive, but please don't keep ANY wild animal as a pet.

As 'friendly' as they may be, wild animals (especially mice) are still flooded with disease which comes out if they bite you- which still may happen- and pee and poo- which you will come into contact when you clean it out.

  4. It's a wild animal. They do not make good pets, especially rodents. I know you only had good intentions, but come on... It's a mouse. Wild ones are full of disease. I feed them to my snake every week. (Just to make it clear they are frozen and not wild.) Just take it outside and leave it as a snack for a passing snake or owl.

  5. You must get rid of it. The pee of a deer mouse can make you very ill. I can't believe what you are saying...keeping it? The only way to have one as a pet is to get it at a pet shop. Please research them and be safe.
