Question:

What is the best way to carry TWO babies to the car and back?

I have 4 month old twins and I can not seem to find a good way to easily carry them to the car, get them to the carseats etc. Then of course taking them out of the carseats and back to the house. It is not a far walk from the door to the driveway but I do not want to leave one twin inside or one in the car while taking the other in.

A stroller won't work for this situation. I need to be able to get in and out quick so I can take my older kids to and from school.

I tried a ring sling and a pouch sling.. they are really hard to use!

It has been a daily pain in the butt trying to find a way to take them to and from the car.. Is there a product I can buy??

I bought the maximom twin carrier used from another twin mom but it is extremely hard to use, worse than slings or pouches.

Thanks,

Kristen

  1. Maybe you should consider putting at least one of them in one of the infant carrier type car seats.  It could be worth buying it if it will make things easier and put your mind at ease.

  2. I found this link..... its just a stroller frame..... and it says compatiable with the britax carseats.  It is all metal... so you culd just leave it out in the rain.

  3. I only have one baby - I always assumed twins were tough but the amount of little practicalities like this that I'd never normally stop and consider - jeez I have admiration for you guys! I've never carried two babies at once so I'm not certain but I would guess in a month or two it'll get a bit easier once you can sit them on your hip, to carry both at once just with your arms and hips. (could be completely wrong though!) - otherwise, do you have carseats with handles? If so, you could nip out to the car and get one seat, put one in the seat and hold the other in your arms? And just nip back to shut the door etc with the car still in sight? Sorry I can't speak from experience - was mainly answering this to show my awe at how parents of twins cope with it all - I'm sure I never could!!!

Edit: Just came back to read this and noticed what you've said about the carseats. I know you've said about the slings being difficult, but with my son I used a kari-me which is a simple knot sling (www.kari-me.com - but you can get loads that's just one brand, it's basically just a long bit of material, you can apparently even make your own with the right instructions) - it takes about 15 minutes of head scratching trying to figure out how to put it on, but as soon as you have the knack of it it's so simple honestly, if you used this you'd spend about 45 seconds putting it on once you're used to it, 10 seconds getting one baby into it, 5 seconds to pick the other baby up and then you're done in a minute! If you don't fancy splashing out on a new bit of equipment though then that's understandable... the only last thing I can think of is this, but to be honest I can't remember how 'flimsy' 4 month old babies are (my son's 8 months old and I've forgotten what he was like then already!). But sometimes, for example if my son has peed on himself or something, I'll put him under one arm with his head pointing forwards and upwards sort of diagonally, and my arm wrapped around him under his armpits so he can't slip and carry him as one might carry a log, and 'march' him to the bathroom in a jokey fashion - carrying him like that makes him giggle and stops me getting wee or poo or sick or whatever it is today on me, and is safe as he can't slip - but I really can't remember how long he's been firm and sturdy enough for that, might only be a couple of months, maybe 4 months is too young I'm not sure! But when they're firm enough for it then I imagine you could carry one baby under one arm quite safely in that fashion!
