  8. sir, what i think the best way of promoting rural tourism is that firstly mark the specialities of a particular place in this world of concrete people search for some place where they can attain some peace n nature is the best way to have peace so firstly we can just enhance the natural growth in that reason with a lots of trees n flowers around the place along with its speciality will be a treat to watch and instead of guides we can educate local people to describe to people there local place because a person living in a region is the best guide to the place i hope u would like my suggestion  .

  9. Right!  We can improve the flow of inland and foreign tourists to our rural areas simply by making available the best accommodation plus modern amenties (which are available in any five star hotel in a cosmopolitan city) in the rural area itself.  These facilities should be on par with the facilities available  in heritage hotels in cities.  I mean to say, hotels must be established in small hut like accommodation with a view  to  conform to the rural environment but equipped with all kinds of modern facilities.  This will create a different feeling in the minds of tourists and  they will throng the rural places in larger numbers.   Above all, there should be some places of historical importance, natural beauty etc. in and around those rural areas, which would induce them to have a visit to these places.

  11. have cheap paying guest houses with hygienic facilities in rural places.  which should increase the per capita income of that village.  cleanliness should be highlighted.  should be near rain harvest places. village welcoming max guest should get extra incentive.  guest houses should be without TV  with gober gas cooking, all healthy traditional methods

  12. www.indiatourism.com

  13. provide good transportation, lodging, boarding and comfortable, safe recreational, shopping facilities.

bhanu, pilvai, vijapur, gujarat, mahudi is near by site seeing place on the bank of sabarmati river.

  14. JJ Shroff, MaxG, Remdev have provided excellent points to consider -- however the point that Remdev makes about Eco-Tourism is key--  to preserve the beauty and natural environment in our rural areas --these are as yet unpolluted, unexploited -- they should remain that way. There are areas beautiful and rural, lacking basic infrastructure and amenities and these can be facilitated a few villages/areas at a time, like MaxG suggests,  although these need not be conventional.  In this regard, I read of an enterprising  offshore resident who while visiting a local village found residents struggling to become economically viable without electricity. So he thought of a plan and introduced solar panels to the village, which over the months has given a new freedom to the residents.

MaxG also suggests an excellent point that village folk and the rural people need to be the most involved in deciding how they'd like the areas they have lived in for generations be showcased. Visit Northern Thailand, Chiangmai and up and you will see how rural/small town Thailand captures the tourist's imagination.

I, however, differ from MaxG's suggestion on hotels with conveniences be provided for foreigners/visitors to experience rural life --This would be an anomaly -- city slickness and urban conveniences including "hotels" that stick out like sore thumbs in an otherwise natural environment would, indeed, defeat the purpose of rural tourism.

In this regard, a leaf may be borrowed from one of our own progressive states -- Kerala 's attempt to attract tourism to its interiors -- one successful plan where locals participate and economically benefit is the Homestay option. This is experiencing local hospitality -- not an impersonal, artificial hotel -- something that is available for international travellers in Europe, Southern America. The Kerala Government lists people's homes as Homestay  accomodation on its Tourism websites building details of local traditions -- ayurveda, yoga, martial arts, temples, festivals and other attractions and things to see and do in the area. The Homestay facilitators themselves list what they offer usually simple clean natural comfort, with home-prepared food -- I have read blogs where visitors enjoyed the Kerala homestay, sharing local and vegetarian  cuisine prepared lovingly, served fresh, without refrigeration...I shall try to insert an Url later. Of course there are some safeguards and certain nominal requirements to be met before allocating the Homestay facility to the local applicant. Again, who better to consult than Kerala which I think is the only state that seems to be keeping ahead.

I also disagree with MaxG that the targeted audience be mostly foreign tourists.

To me, as an Indian,  the appeal of our villages and rural areas lies in its serenity, naturalness and simplicity -- an ancient timelesness -- it becomes exotic, alluring and a welcome relief compared to the metro scene.  Many Westerners find the lure of Vrindavan, Radha Kund, Shyam Kund and Brijwasis  for this precise reason. To live like the locals and to enjoy an environment and culture that is as yet untainted by metropolitan chaos is something to be cherished... Something that connects me with history, my parents, grandparents and ancestors who grew up in those surrounds.

If India is a country that simultaneously lives in the ancient and the modern, spanning centuries of tradition, history and culture, this then is its timeless appeal and uniqueness.

provide villagers government property to develop as a tourist place on lease basis

  18. The effective and best way to promote/carry our rural tourisim

is by conducting intensive rural fests by involving rural folk and artists, around the country and by inviting local & most importantly desi and firangi atithis/paryatak to witness and to be part(involement) of that fest. Another effective and conventional way is advertising but, the advertisment should revolve around the history of that particular local people, there way of living, there celebrations, there architecture.....etc.

    (OR)

Conduct some quiz and chalenges among the potential atithis/ paryatak home town/country and award few of them free trip to our rural tourisim destination.

Tourisim Dept./ Co. should prepare a tourisim catalouge and reference handouts and it should be given to our atithis/paryatak when they are on tour.

Similarly, rural education can be taught in a similar manner to a people at large since the concept is very new. Many individuals say that they learn a lot from rural education by interacting with the rural folks in the village and can be oicked up a lot.

  22. Let's first understand the term Rural tourism. I stay in Mumbai n I have a farm house in Alibag, which Goa of Mumbaits. Being a place having Goa like beaches n within an hours reach from Mumbai we have several shacks, Motels and hotels. My experience goes as under:

The Tourism is divided in two classes: Local and International. In local tourism also there are two types Family tourism and Group tourism. Among all above types the Group tourism is the one which is most favoured and supported by tourism industry as it is the fast encashing business. Also the expectations of the groups are bare minimum and although  they generate lower revenue per capita, due to numbers their  gross fund generation capacity is much higher.

However as is noticed off late the groups generally end up in commotion of various types. Right from drinks to narcotics are on their agenda leave alone the immoral activities which cannot be spelt out here.

While promoting rural tourism we have to exercise utmost care that the Rural environment, ethics and moral is preservrd and mingling with the urban culture does not affect the future of the nation.
