What is the best way to catch Salmon???

I am going fishing next week in a river known best for it's high amount of salmon. Does anyone have any tips for salmon fishing? What kind of bait works best, what lures are good to use, what strength line to use, etc. Any tips will be helpful, ESPECIALLY websites!!

i would go with a medium action rod 7' maybe....18-20lb. line,with a decent spinning reel.and for lures, it depends on were your fishing and what the ecosystem looks like...but i think that some flies would work, what color,im not sure...

I fly fish for them with great results but you can use mepps spinners no3 size and flying C spinners, i generally use 15-18lb test line, you can also use rapala original floaters when the river levels are high.

I say 12-gauge!! But fishing wise I guess peices of corn or any trout type bait

It depends on the river and the type of salmon.  Here in Oregon, cut herring are used, spinners in red or rainbow, cluster salmon eggs, and Kwikfish with or without a strip of bait attached with elastic thread.    All of these can catch salmon.    I would use at least 20  to 25 lb. line.

For myself, I'll use fresh Salmon/Steehead Roe (tyed in "Roe Sacks") but, one can go with the vacuum packed store bought, also Kwik Fish lures are producers, keep in mind that these be just a couple (link will supply more). When fishin' rivers I'll use 14lb test but, personally you may want to go heavier, say 18.
