What is the best way to check and see if a dentist is a good one?

I am looking at switching dentists and I want to make sure that the new doctor does not have many complaints lodged against him/her. Is there a place to check this?

The best way to check it to look at clinic neatness and to look at his equipment whether old or new. To look whether he uses sterilized instruments for every one or not. Does he has sterilizer available with him or not. And off coarse experience.
