Question:

What is the best way to clean a farm fresh egg?

We are new to having chickens and absolutely love them. Every day we collect our eggs and I wash them and then place them in egg cartons. However I was wondering what the "proper" or "best" way to clean eggs straight from the "coop". I just rinse under water until clean looking and then towel dry. Is this a good enough way?

  2. Best not to wash them.

If you are compulsive about it, water is a good way to wash them.

They have a coating that will keep them fresh for months without refrigeration. You wash it off and they will not last long without refrigeration.

  3. Don't wash with water until just before you are ready to use them.  wipe them with a dry rag to get off any foreign matter instead.    (They have a special coating on them that keeps them fresh longer.)

  4. That's all I have ever done for the past 20 years or so and I am still here to tell the tale!!
