I just bought a house with natural finished cabinets. They are sticky and dark around the k***s.

  1. i think that you should talk to your landlord about what you should clean it with because certain kinds of spay may mess up the material in the cabinet.

  2. I love Citrisolve - it cuts through so many sticky things and it since it is natural it doesn't give me a headache like other products do.

Ideally, if really sticky, I would unscrew the k***s and soak them in the Citrisolve or detergent and clean them after a few hours.

It also makes it much easier to clean the cabinet without the k***s.

If it is grease sticky, I like slightly diluted dawn dishwashing detergent too - with a lot of elbow grease.

Finally, once you're done cleaning, make sure you cover the shelves (and even the top of the cabinets - even if you can't see them)...that way, it will be easy to clean especially before you leave - just remove the paper or covering and you'll have very little to do.  Do the extra work up front, it will make it easier in the long run.

  3. Trisodium phosphate can be use to clean this sticky buildup which is the result of dust sticking to oily deposits from greasy fingers. TSP, as it is known, can even be used in higher concentrations to clean oil stains on asphalt and concrete.
