Bleach. Use gloves and open the window for ventilation. You can try to dilute it but if it doesn't help-try it without diluting. Good luck!

Is it black because it's dirty or is it black because the fiinish has worn off?  If it's black because it's dirty, you can use something like Softscrub or Comet to scrub it clean -- then clean it more often.  If it's black because the finish has worn off no amount of cleaning will remove the black.  You'll need to have it refinished or get a new tub.

I usually clean my tub with vinegar and/or baking soda. If it is that dirty, I would put the stopper in and spray it with white vinegar. Then, sprinkle it with baking soda. Let it fizz and sit for about 10 minutes. Then get a sponge or cloth and rub it. Pull out the stopper and rinse it well.
