Question:

What is the best way to color your hair at home and have it last?

I bought a dark brown (called "Soft Black", Garnier Nutrisse) color for my hair. I'm planning on having 2 blond chunks put in my hair in a few days, but I don't see the point in paying money to have my hair "base"-colored too. The directions always say to apply hair color to unwashed hair. Why? I use hair "goop" to spike my hair in the back and it is rarely without some kind of hair product. I'm worried that applying hair color on top of product won't work. I usually have a problem with hair color fading easily, and I want this color to adhere well. My natural color is a very dark brown, however, from coloring my hair previously, color now fades to a light brown starting about 4 inches from my scalp where my hair is long. Anybody have any professional tips? I kinda wanted to do this in the next 2 days, and my stylist is on vacation. Thanks!

  1. Hair dye is pretty powerful and will penetrate the hair products on your hair... the reason to leave you hair dirty is the oil on your scalp will protect it from any irritation caused from the chemicals in the hair dye... the hair color brand you bought I am not familiar with... I would suggest from what you wrote to get one that is a semi permanent color... permanent hair dyes makes you think it is better but when you are wanting to add back pigment... you want a deposit only color which is a semi perm. color... permanent color lift then deposits so they are notorious for fading... so they are not always the best... they are good for when you are want to lighten the hair and tone it to a new color... hope this all makes sense... you are smart to do one of the steps yourself and save you some $$$

    Hope this helps:-)))
