Question:

What is the best way to cook rice?

I have always used twice as much water as rice. I bring to a boil and then simmer covered with the smallest flame possible for 18 minutes.

I now have a range that does not allow me to use a very small flame. This causes much of the rice to be wasted since it sticks to the bottom of the pot.

What would be a better ratio of rice to water and recommended cooking time with a low but not tiny flame?

  1. i buy the 5mins.kind..boil the water say 2 cups then 2 cups of rice remove from stove cover 5 min.stir in butter i like melted cheese on mine and cutup chicken..yum yum i had some for supper to day..

  2. E-Z; put it in the microwave for 2 minutes on high and 15-18 minutes on level 4. Rice is one of the very few foods that doesn't care where it is cooked. I've seen it done in the oven.

  3. stick with the same 2/1 ratio but try spraying a pan and cover it with foil cook it in the oven for 30-35 minutes on 400.  half way through the time pull out and stir cover and finish.

  4. I've got an electric rice maker which makes it very easy.  Hoever, you can also put the rice (2:1) in a covered casserole dish, and nuke it on high for 20 min.

Try adding stuff to the water/rice mix like 1 teaspoon vegetable seasoning, or small chunks of fresh veggies.  Yum!

    HTH.

  5. If your stove doesn't allow a small flame try instant rice It's equal amounts f rice & water. You  bring the water to a boil add the rice, stir cover, and remove from heat. Let sit for about 5 minutes. Then stir one las time and serve.
